After 4 long plane rides I finally arrived on South Africa soil on Sunday night. I came to the AIM house and was greeted by all of my co-leaders. For the next 3 days I fought jetlag really bad! I couldn’t fall asleep until 2 or 3 am. Then during the day I was dead tired. I feel much better now though.
The first day I got here we started our ministries. The one I am leading is called Love a Child. It’s an after school program for children with learning disabilibites. We help the kids do their homework, play games, sing songs, just different stuff like that. The girls on my ministry team are Kristen Berg, Gail Antosh and Sarah Buller.
I have 4 girls (Ellen Amdahl, Sara Patterson, Alexis Foster and Layne Carson) that I’m discipling one on one. We also have small group discipleship during the week. I won’t name all of their names because there are 10 of them.
We haven’t really been able to get on a normal schedule yet. Half of the students have been helping out with a camp at UCSA for the last 5 days. I have to say they’ve done an excellent job with all of that.
Our cook (Melissa Regier) flew all the way over here to Africa and some how misplaced her passport in transit. So they deported her back to Canada. She had to come up with enough money to buy another plane ticket to come back here. Her supporters were very gracious and were able to help her get another ticket. I am very happy to say that she is flying in tomorrow!! We are in desperate need of a good cook! I’ll just leave it at that. The food here is so much different than in the states. I am slowly learning where to find decent food.
I live in the AIM house with 5 of the other leaders. (Aaryn, Amber, Chelsea, Kristen and Matt) The other 4 leaders (Isabel, Becca, Em & Melissa) will be living at UCSA with the students. There have been several people that have been sick with the stomach flu. Please pray that we all don’t get it. We are trying to stay healthy!!
Thanks for all your prayers and support!!
